A slip or a hard shift is not automatically a rebuild. We check the simple causes first, then give you the repair, rebuild and replacement numbers side by side.
Ask about the shifting — (720) 303-4784Transmissions usually complain for a while before they quit. Catching it early keeps more options open.

Can be fluid, a solenoid or the control software rather than internal damage.
Cooler lines, pan gaskets and axle seals all leak. Low fluid damages a transmission quickly.
Overheated fluid loses its protection. Towing and long grades are hard on it.
Transfer case, actuator or shift motor problems, often on trucks that sit in two-wheel drive most of the year.
First the basics: fluid level and condition, leaks, stored codes and how the transmission behaves on a road test. A surprising number of complaints end there, with a leak repaired, fluid corrected or a solenoid replaced.
When the problem is internal, you get three numbers: repairing the failed section, rebuilding the unit, and fitting a replacement unit. Each comes with what it involves and how long the vehicle will be off the road. Manual gearboxes, clutches and four-wheel-drive transfer cases are handled the same way.
After any transmission work the fluid level is set to specification at operating temperature and the vehicle is road tested through every gear.
Tell us when the problem happens: cold or warm, under load or cruising, and in which gears. Say whether the vehicle tows and whether four-wheel drive is involved. Those details shape the road test and the first checks.
If another shop has already quoted a rebuild, you are welcome to mention it. A second look sometimes finds a simpler cause, and when it does not, you at least have two numbers to compare and a clearer sense of which repair is the sensible one.
Occasionally, if the fluid was low or badly degraded. If the clutches are already worn, fresh fluid will not bring them back. Testing shows which situation you are in.
It depends on the damage and the prices available for your transmission. We give you both figures and say which we would choose.
As little as possible. Slipping creates heat, and heat destroys the clutches and fluid faster. Short, gentle trips to get it checked are better than waiting until it stops pulling altogether.
Call and describe how it shifts. We will set up the right tests and give you the options in plain numbers.
